If you are driving up from Boston take the I-90 west to Albany then take the I-87 North. If you are coming up from New York or New Jersy follow the the I-87 North. Leave the I-87 at exit 30 and follow Route 9 North to Route 73 west. You would pass through Keen and Keen Valley then approach Lake Placid. It is easier to turn left after the Ski jumps into the old military road that leads to Route 86, if you miss it, then carry on through Lake Placid and turn left at the Hilton into Route 86. Follow Route 86 to Saranac Lake (15 minutes), follow the road as it turns left around Lake flower, turn right at the second traffic light where you would see a gas station on your right and the town hall across the road. Turn right at this traffic light and go through the town of Saranac Lake, you would go through 2 traffic lights and then pass the Hospital on your right, Lake colby would be on your left across from the hosptial, keep on Route 86 past the hospital for another 5 minutes till you enter the very small town of Gabriels. Slow down as you would soon turn right at the Corner Cafe into The Rainbow Lake road, after about 5 miles you would see a sign for ONCHIOTA, slow down, 100 yards later, you would see a 35 miles speed limit sign, turn left here into a small private dirt road: The Meenahga Mountain Road. Follow this road for 2 minutes, it will split into a Y, keep left into ESKERVIEW road, follow EskerView for another 2 minutes it will take you through 2 tall pillars with the letters SMJ (for SanMarJean) on top of them, proceed through this gate, you would see the SanMajean Garage enterance on your right, ignore this enterance, and continue on for another 100 yards to the main drive and sign for SanMarJean, turn right and follow the drive, the house would be on your right .
If you are coming from Buffalo or Rochester direction, follow I-90 east to I-87 and proceed north as described above or you can follow I-81 north to Watertown the take R3 to Tupper Lake, then Saranac Lake the turn left at the Town Hall into R86 and follow the above directions.
If you are coming from Montreal, follow I-87 south , take exit 38 to Route 374 and and then route 3 towards Saranac lake. Leave route 3 at the sign to Onchiota and Buck Pond, (30 minutes from Plattsburgh), turn right and follow the road (county road 60) towards Onchiota. you would pass the indian museum on the left, follow the road as it winds left, turn right into Meenahga Mountain road (there is a 55 mile speed limit sign at that point). follow the above directions.
